January 8, 2025Avalanche at Jets Same Game Parlay – Jan 11
January 9, 2025The PGA Tour stays in Hawaii for another week with the Sony Open in Hawaii. It is a full field this week unlike The Sentry last week that had a much smaller field and no cut. It was all about Hideki Matsuyama last week as he set the PGA Tour record of 35-under par in winning in Maui. It is not going to be like that this week in Honolulu on a different course. The field is also not as strong as last week, so Matsuyama is favored at Caesars even though this course doesn’t suit him as well as last week’s did. It was a 2-2 week with the matchups last week at The Sentry and we also had Ludvig Aberg as the top continent European player last week. Let’s look at this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii matchup picks and also pick another group winner.
Reduced juice betting is one of the best ways for any sports bettor to save money and far too many people don’t take advantage of it. If you are not playing at a sportsbook that offers reduced juice betting then you are simply giving away money. Check out the latest Sony Open in Hawaii matchup odds at Caesars.
Tournament Notes: Hearts will be heavy this week, as Waialae is the site of Grayson Murray’s win last year but he committed suicide later in the year. Waialae averaged 68.820 in scoring last year. Wind should make the scoring more difficult this year, especially on Sunday.

Golf Matchup Picks
Corey Conners +115 vs. Hideki Matsuyama
I know that going against Matsuyama is risky, as he is in great form. He also cost me last week as I would have gone 3-1 in the matchups if he hadn’t beaten Morikawa. I have had a strategy of going against the previous week’s winner, unless it is Scottie Scheffler and I am going against Matsuyama here. It’s possible to sweep these two Hawaii events, but I still don’t think Waialae suits Matsuyama as well as Kapalua. Conners has four top 12 finishes at Waialae and his putting was excellent last week in a tie for fifth. I’ll take him at plus money in this golf betting matchup.
Harry Hall -150 vs. Thomas Detry
Hall just continues to play well on a weekly basis. Since his win at the ISCO Championship he has six top 20 finishes including a tie for 8th last week. I’ll lay the price and take him in this golf matchup against Detry.
Austin Eckroat -120 vs. Ben Griffin
Eckroat played well last week with a tie for 15th and all we have seen lately from him are strong finishes. He won in Mexico, tied for 17th in Sea Island and in 2023 he finished tied for 12th in this event. I’ll take Eckroat in this matchup.
Denny McCarthy -145 vs. Stephan Jaeger
A short course where putting is paramount. That pretty much describes the type of course on which McCarthy does well. He is a great putter who normally struggles where distance is needed. That is no issue this week and I think McCarthy will be in the mix. I’ll lay the price and take him in this PGA matchup against Jaeger.
Group Pick
I am coming right back to what I did last week with the group pick at Proline+ and taking a player in the top continent European group. This week I like Sepp Straka at odds of 4-1. I wrote about him in this week’s pick article. The other players in the group are Thomas Detry, Stephan Jaeger, Jesper Svensson, Henrik Norlander, Matthias Schmid, Thomas Rosenmuller, Kristoffer Ventura, Tim Widing, Jeremy Paul and Vincent Norrman. I’ll take Straka at odds of 4-1 to win that group.Check out the latest Sony Open in Hawaii matchup odds at Caesars.
