The PGA Tour holds their only team event of the season this week, as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans gets underway on Thursday. Teams will play best ball in the first and third rounds, while they will play alternate shots in the second and fourth rounds. The team of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are the defending champions and they are listed as the golf betting favorites at odds of +300 at BetRivers. The winning team will take home about $2.4 million dollars so that means each partner will get about $1.2 million. Let’s look at Zurich Classic of New Orleans picks.

Venue: TPC Louisiana is a par 72 that measures 7.425 yards. It features over 100 bunkers and numerous water hazards throughout the course. The team of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele set the 72-hole record last year of 259.

Last Year: The team of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele won by two shots over the team of Sam Burns and Billy Horschel. Cantlay and Schauffele became the first team in the history of the event to win wire-to-wire. The team of Sam Ryder and Doc Redman finished third.

Favorite

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele +300

If I was going to bet a favorite in golf betting it might be this week, as it is hard to argue with taking the team of Cantlay and Schauffele. That being said, the favorite lost again last week, as Jon Rahm was never in contention. The golf betting favorite simply doesn’t win enough to be profitable, so while it is hard to do, I will have to pass on taking Cantlay and Schauffele.

Value Picks

Mitchell, K/Sungjae Im +1100

I am a little surprised that the odds on Mitchell and Im are this low, but oddsmakers know what they are doing. Im is ranked in the Top 20 in the world and he is a super irons player. He has been on leaderboards all year and is normally in contention. Mitchell is an excellent driver of the golf ball so he should team up well with Im in this format.

Burns, S/Horschel, B +1800

I am shocked that the number on Burns and Horschel is this high. I think it should be in the range of what we saw on Mitchell and Im. Burns and Horschell have done well in this event in the past and Horschel has had a lot of success on this Louisiana course.

Suh, J/Theegala, S +2200

I said last week that Theegala is due to win and he made a good run before falling short. He has been playing really well of late and he has proven that he can win in this format, as he won the QBE Shootout which is an exhibition event. Suh finished 11th with his teammate Doug Ghim in 2021 and he gets a better partner this time around in Theegala.

Hardy, N/Riley, D +3300

I’ll throw one longshot in here and go with Hardy and Riley. They have both had success in this event in the past and each is undervalued. Riley is a player who gets a lot of birdie locks and Hardy is an excellent long irons player. I think these two could surprise this week.
