January 13, 2025Wild Card Same Game Parlay Picks – Washington Commanders vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap
Of all the matchups lined up to go throughout Wild Card Weekend, the Sunday nighter between the Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers got my juices flowing the most thinking Jayden Daniels and Baker Mayfield would fight to the death in a back-and-forth high scoring affair that had the scoreboard operators working deep into the night. It proved to be anything but after the Commies secured their first playoff victory in 18 years by defeating the Bucs at the gun, 23-20. With that, the first leg of the recommended same-game parlay went up in flames at Caesars Sportsbook with Tampa losing outright as field goal favorites.
The second leg didn’t fare much better with the 43 combined points falling well short of the closing 51.5-point Over/Under which went off the board 1.5-points higher than where I locked it in at 50. Oddsmakers made out like bandits with 70+ percent of the written tickets and booked handle backing the over on the highest total of the wild-card slate. Unfortunately, the teams only combined for 634 yards of total offense and failed to score touchdowns on half of the eight red zone attempts. Had two of those missed opportunities hit pay dirt, the match would’ve played to a runaway high scorer considering the Commanders and Buccaneers combined for 41 first downs and converted at a 54.1% clip combined on third down.
I still can’t believe Baker fumbled the game away like that immediately following the defense coming up with a huge goal line stop a minute into the fourth quarter. Tampa had scored touchdowns on its previous two drives leading up to that possession, so it’s highly likely the Bucs would’ve put points on the board to add to what had been a 17-13 lead. Chalk it up to tough luck that will no doubt be eating at Mayfield’s craw throughout the entirety of the offseason. Hat tip to the Commies for seeing the outright NFL odds triumph all the way through!
A pair of unlikely playoff entrants collide in the Wild Card Round installment of Sunday Night Football that takes NFL bettors to Raymond James Stadium where the Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will square off for the right to advance into the Division round. Dan Quinn’s troops just put their stamp on a breakout campaign by coming back to topple the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington with a non-covering 23-19 win to avenge an earlier season loss, while Todd Bowles’ squad punched its ticket to the second season by battling back from a 10 point halftime deficit to win and cover against the division rival Saints.
Caesars Sportsbook initially lined the Bucs 3-point favorites on the NFL odds to win this pivotal NFC clash with a total of 50.5. Though Washington has been aligned with 65 percent of the bets and 70+ percent of the handle, linemakers have been remiss to move off the key number and instead attached heavier vig to the Commies’ side of the impost. Though these teams combined for
A high scorer when they met way back in Week 1, total bettors appear to believe points are tougher to come by in the rematch with 70+ percent of the tickets and handle forcing a half-point market correction to 50.
Reduced juice betting is one of the best ways for any sports bettor to save money and far too many people don’t take advantage of it. If you are not playing at a sportsbook that offers reduced juice betting then you are simply giving away money.

Washington Commanders vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Same Game Parlay:
Whether or not the Washington Commanders make a deep playoff run, the remarkable turnaround orchestrated by Dan Quinn and his coaching staff deserves more recognition in the futures markets. It’s puzzling how Quinn remains a 40-1 long shot in Coach of the Year odds, given his impact. The Commanders delivered excitement all season long, capped by a thrilling last-second 23-19 victory over Dallas to secure their 12th win — an impressive accomplishment for a franchise that hadn’t surpassed nine wins in any of the last 11 seasons.
However, a tough road lies ahead for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the sixth-seeded Commanders. Their postseason journey begins in Tampa Bay, where they’ll face Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. Should they emerge victorious — a result many bettors are optimistic about — their next likely challenge would be a trip to Detroit to face the top-seeded Lions, the favorites to win Super Bowl LIX. Regardless of how far Washington advances, this season marks a giant leap forward for the franchise. Under the guidance of its new regime, the team is positioned to compete for NFC East titles and potentially greater success in the years to come.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers clinched their fourth consecutive NFC South title in Week 18, showcasing resilience by overcoming multiple deficits to secure a 27-19 victory against the New Orleans Saints. Baker Mayfield continued his stellar season, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns while helping Mike Evans achieve his eleventh straight 1,000-yard receiving season, a feat that puts the wideout on a path to the Hall of Fame. Rookie sensation Bucky Irving also impressed, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown, finishing his debut season with 1,122 rushing yards and eight total scores.
Under Todd Bowles’ leadership, the Buccaneers have now made the playoffs in each of his three seasons since succeeding Bruce Arians. With Liam Coen orchestrating an efficient offense and the defense tightening up — allowing 19 or fewer points in four of its last five games — Tampa Bay appears primed for postseason competition. This spot won’t be nearly as easy as it was back in Week 1. The Bucs will need to bring their A-game if they hope to silence the doubters and move deeper into the postseason.
Provided the moment isn’t too big for Jayden Daniels in his first playoff start, I think NFL bettors will be in store for one of the more entertaining and high scoring games of Wild Card Weekend. Both of these offenses rank amongst the top-6 in red zone scoring percentage, while both defenses clock in below average in the same stat category. As such, it comes with little surprise to see linemakers setting the total for the rematch nine points higher than they did when they first crossed paths. They had no clue what these teams would morph into back then.
Baker is going to push the envelope all game long against a Washington secondary he already roasted for 289 yards and 4 TD, but JD will be up to the task and also succeed against a Bucs stop unit he ran circles around for 88 yards and a pair of tuddies. With Marshon Lattimore and Antoine Winfield likely playing but gimpy, I expect both teams’ pass catchers to shine in a match that might find the holder of the pigskin last in a position to win the game. Fingers crossed it’s the home team that gets that opportunity and puts us in position to cash this SNF SGP.
