Rocket Mortgage Classic Matchup Picks

Patrick Cantlay is the highest-ranked golfer in the field for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Cantlay is ranked No. 4 in the latest World Golf Rankings and he is the only player in the Top 10 in the field. There are some other marquee names in the field including last week’s winner Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, Max Homa, and Webb Simpson, among others. There are just two more PGA Tour events left before the FedExCup Playoffs begin, so the focus will be on players who are trying to break into the Top 125 in the FedExCup standings. Let’s take a look at Rocket Mortgage Classic matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Cameron Davis

Course Note: Detroit Golf Club has played relatively easy through the years and it doesn’t necessarily favor any particular golfer, although length always helps. Last year’s winner, Cameron Davis, led the field in par-5 scoring in this event.

Golf Picks

Cameron Young -104 vs. Tony Finau

One of my go-to matchup strategies through the years has been to go against the previous week’s winner. It usually works pretty well, as it is very difficult to not have a letdown after winning the previous week. There are numerous matchups involving Finau, so we have a lot of choices. I’ll take this one and go with Cameron Young. He has finished second four times this season and finished third twice. He is 13th in the latest FedExCup standings. I’ll take Young in this matchup against Finau.

DraftKings Sportsbook ReviewTaylor Pendrith -120 vs. Si Woo Kim

You may have forgotten a little bit about Pendrith, as he missed four months due to a fractured rib. The rookie has come back from that injury and looked good with a tie for 13th at the Barbasol and a tie for 11th at the Barracuda. You never know what you are going to get from Kim, as he is as likely to miss the cut as to finish in the Top 20. I’ll take Pendrith in this matchup.

Chris Kirk -120 vs. Cameron Tringale

One of my go-against players this season has been Tringale, and it worked again last week, as we picked up two matchup wins. This week we get Kirk who has seven top 20 finishes this season. He has also played well in Detroit with a tie for 21st two years ago and a tie for 12th last year. I’ll take Kirk in this matchup.

Mark Hubbard -120 vs. Webb Simpson

It might seem strange to see Hubbard favored in this matchup, but right now Hubbard is playing better than Simpson. Hubbard took last week off after finishing in a tie for 13th, 3rd, and 4th in his previous three tournaments. He tied for 12th in this event two years ago. I’ll take Hubbard in this matchup.

Kevin Kisner -112 vs. Davis Riley

Kisner finished in a tie for 6th at the Travelers and he tied for 21st at the Open Championship. He has played well in Detroit in the past with a third-place finish two years ago and a tie for 8th last year. I’ll take Kisner in this matchup.
