LIV Golf Mayakoba Picks

Are you ready for the second season of LIV Golf? The first season saw more drama than anything, as people paid attention to the big names leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf and pretty much ignored the LIV Golf in terms of the playing action. That should not be the case in 2023, as the LIV Golf Tour is pretty well settled in terms of players and LIV Golf has a television contract with the CW Network. There will be 14 tournaments in LIV Golf for 2023 and once again the tournaments will be 54-holes and run from Friday through Sunday. The 2023 LIV Golf schedule begins with the LIV Golf Mayakoba on Friday in Mexico. Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann are listed as co-favorites in golf betting odds. Let’s look at LIV Golf Mayakoba picks.

Venue: El Camaleón Mayakoba Golf Course is a par 71 that measures 7,039 yards. It is located on the Riviera Maya and is ranked as one of the top courses in Mexico.

TV Coverage: CW Network

Dustin Johnson +800, Joaquin Niemann +800

Favorites in golf betting have been a losing proposition through the years but this year on the PGA Tour there has been one man who has been changing that and his name is Jon Rahm. We don’t have a Rahm in this field, and last year on the LIV Golf Tour, the favorites flopped on a regular basis. There was a different winner every week a year ago on the LIV Golf Tour. Johnson and Niemann are listed as co-favorites this week and I am not taking either of them.

Value Picks

Cameron Smith +1100

I don’t know why Cameron Smith is not listed as the golf betting favorite this week. I don’t think there is any question that Smith has a better short game than either Johnson or Niemann and this course in Mexico demands a great short game. I will take Smith at double-digit odds this week.

Abraham Ancer +1200

I know that Ancer is a popular pick this week and that has me concerned, but if he wins I don’t want to miss out since he will be playing in front of his fans in Mexico. Ancer also has the right type of game to win on this course where accuracy and a good short game is demanded.

Sergio Garcia +1200

I have to admit that I was hoping for more than 12-1 on Garcia, but I like the way that Sergio’s game is coming into form. Sergio has said he wants to focus on golf this season and not so much on everything else away from the course. Sergio knows how to win and his short game will do well this week.

Carlos Ortiz +4000

I think there is a lot more value on Ortiz this week than on Ancer and I think Ortiz has a real chance to win. He has played a lot of golf on this course and he has played well. I like his odds of 40-1.

Ian Poulter +4000

Another player who knows how to win and has a strong short game is Poulter and we get him at odds of 40-1. Poulter looked pretty good at the Dubai Desert Classic and I expect him to play well this week.
