AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Matchup Picks

It is celebrity week on the PGA Tour, with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. PGA Tour professionals will team up with celebrity players this week and considering the strength of the field, the spotlight may be more on the celebrities than the pros. Only a handful of top ranked players are in the field this week, with Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick listed as the betting favorites at BetRivers. People may be paying more attention to Aaron Rodgers and Bill Murray than some of the pros. Two weeks ago, we swept the board with the matchups, but last week it was ugly. The struggles with the matchups were offset, however, with the win by Homa, as we picked Homa in last week’s odds article. Let’s look at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Tom Hoge

Tournament Notes: This event will not have a cut until after three rounds are complete. The top 60 and ties will play the final round on Sunday. A total of 25 pro-am teams will make the cut for the final round.

Troy Merritt -115 vs. Greyson Sigg

You won’t find me taking Merritt that often in matchups, but he is definitely worth playing at Pebble Beach. Merritt has finished T8-T25-T16-T4 since 2018. This matchup is definitely a horse for the course matchup, as we take Merritt over Sigg.

Alex Smalley -115 vs. Scott Stallings

Smalley has yet to win a PGA Tour event but he is getting closer. He has made seven of nine cuts since October including an 11th place finish in Bermuda. He also finished in the top five at the RSM and in Houston. Pebble should fit his game well and we get him at a short price in this matchup against Stallings.

Kevin Streelman +100 vs. Will Gordon

Streelman had been a fixture in the top 20 in this event until last year when he was undone by a 77 at Spyglass. Streelman does well on short courses and there is a good chance he gets back into form with another top 20 in this tournament. I’ll take him in this matchup against Gordon.

Nick Taylor -120 vs. Brendon Todd

Taylor is a former winner at Pebble Beach and he has made six of eight cuts. He finished in a tie for 7th at the Sony Open in Hawaii and we know he does well on courses that demand accuracy. He ranks in the Top 20 in this field in Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green, Shots Gained: Approach and Shots Gained: Total. I’ll take Taylor in this matchup over Todd.

Keith Mitchell -120 vs. Thomas Detry

Mitchell played well at The American Express with a finish in the Top 25 and he played well at Pebble Beach last year, as he tied for 12th. I’ll take Mitchell who is listed as a slight favorite in this matchup against Detry.

Robby Shelton -115 vs. Ben Griffin

Shelton finished in sixth place at The American Express and he has beaten Griffin in the past on the Korn Ferry Tour. Shelton should like Pebble Beach a lot more than he liked Torrey Pines and the price in this matchup is small.
