January 16, 2024You may already know what the best bets to make in craps are when you are playing at the online casino, but do you know which craps bets to avoid. The bad bets in craps have some really high edges for the house and they need to be avoided. You may like the sounds of some of these bets like “Any 7” or “Horn Bet” but you don’t want to be making craps bets based on how the bet sounds. You want to avoid bad bets in craps that have high house edges. Let’s look at the worst bets to make in craps.

Any 7
House Edge: 16.67%
Odds of Winning: 5:1
Payout: 4:1
You can make a case that the worst bet in craps to make at the online casino is the Any 7. It is a very simple wager but one with a high house edge. It is single-roll wager on the next roll of the dice being a 7. Any other number loses. The odds of a seven coming up on the next roll are 5-1 but you only get paid 4-1. That means the house edge on this bet is nearly 17%. Stay away from the Any 7 wager.
Betting on 2 and Betting on 12
House Edge: 13.89%
Odds of Winning: 35:1
Payout: 30:1
You don’t want to be betting on the number 2 or the number 12 in craps. This is a single-roll bet that the shooter will roll a 2 on the next roll. Or you may have chosen to bet the 12. We are grouping these two numbers together because the house edge is the same. If you bet on a 2 for the next roll and any other number comes out, you lose. It is the same thing with the 12, as you are betting on a 12 coming out on the next roll and any other number is a loser. The odds are against you to begin with at 35-1 and the really bad news is that the casino only pays you 30-1 if you win.
Horn Bet
House Edge: 12.5%
Odds of Winning: 5:1
Payout: 27:4 on 2 or 12; 3:1 on 3 or 11
The Horn Bet is another bad wager. You are betting on a 2, 3, 11, or 12 being rolled on the next roll of the dice. Any other number being rolled is a loser for you. Your odds of winning are 5-1 but your payouts are less than that. You have four numbers you can win with, but the odds are still against you and you don’t get paid true odds.
Betting on 3
House Edge: 11.11%
Odds of Winning: 17:1
Payout: 15:1
This wager is basically the same as betting on a 2 or a 12 to be rolled next. The odds are against the 3 being rolled next at 17-1 and you only get 15-1 if it actually happens.
Hi-Lo (2 or 12)
House Edge: 11.11%
Odds of Winning: 17:1
Payout: 15:1
This wager has you betting on either a 2 or a 12 to come up on the next roll of the dice. You lose if any other number is rolled. The odds of a 2 or a 12 being rolled are 17-1 but you only get 15-1 if it actually happens.
Craps (2, 3, or 12)
House Edge: 11.11%
Odds of Winning: 8:1
Payout: 7:1
The name of the game is craps and this is a bet you can make but it is not a good one. You are betting that a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled on the next roll of the dice. The three numbers give you odds of 8-1 but you are paid out at odds of only 7-1 so this is another bad bet.
Hard 4 / Hard 10
House Edge: 11.11%
Odds of Winning: 8:1
Payout: 7:1
This is a wager that you are making that a 4 or a 10 will be rolled with the combinations of 2-2 or 5-5. You lose if a 4 or a 10 is rolled with a 1-3 or 4-6 and you also lose if a seven is rolled. This is another wager that has a high house edge.
Hard 6 / Hard 8
House Edge: 9.09%
Odds of Winning: 10.1
Payout: 9:1
This is the same basic wager as the previous one except you are betting on a Hard 6 or Hard 8. You want a 3/3 or 4/4 to come up before the 1-5,2-4, / 2-6, 3-5) or when a 7 is rolled. This is another bad craps bet.
Big 6 / Big 8
House Edge: 9.09%
Odds of Winning: 6:5
Payout: 1:1
This is a multi-roll bet where you are betting that a 6 or 8 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled. The problem with this wager is that the odds of you winning are 6-5 but you are only paid even money. It is another bad bet.
